Prepare to study in Canada
Coming to study in Canada is a big adventure: use the resources below to help you prepare.
Get your permits and visas
When you are accepted to study at UFV, you receive an Official Letter of Acceptance. Once you have this letter, you are ready to go to nearest Canadian embassy or high commission to get your study permit and visa, if required.
Allow at least 4 to 13 weeks for processing. Processing may be faster for Indian and Chinese students who apply and meet the requirements under the Student Partners Program.

Arrange for housing and transportation
Once you arrive in Canada, you’ll need a place to stay and transportation to get to campus. You can choose to stay in residence on campus or you may prefer to get your own apartment.

Get medical insurance
As an International student, you need to have health insurance for the whole time you are in Canada. UFV International’s staff can help you sign up for medical insurance when you first arrive. But if you prefer to make your own arrangements with an insurance company in your country, be prepared to show proof that you have medical coverage.

Check in at UFV International
When you arrive at UFV, staff and student leaders will be there to help you find your way.
Be sure to drop international office in building B room 223 to check in. Staff will verify that all your documents are in order. They will also activate your student account online and provide you with important information.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in a student orientation. This is an ideal opportunity to learn more about UFV, meet people, and make new friends. Orientation starts the week before classes begin. Do not miss it!
