Work Study Grant Program Overview
The Work-Study Program gives eligible students an opportunity to land an on campus, part-time job that is flexible around their class schedule. A number of positions are available during the Fall, Winter and Summer semesters in a variety of different areas.
There are many benefits for students participating in the Work Study program including a few of the following:
- Earn and learn: Working on campus in between classes is a great way to become involved with your campus. It also saves time and gas money- you don't have to travel to work.

Gain valuable skills: Work Study positions build communication and interpersonal skills. Depending on the position, you also have the opportunity to gain technical skills, such as database management or project management skills.

Experience: Work Study allows you to apply for a new position each semester, so you have the chance to try different positions and get an idea of what your interests are.
To be eligible to participate in the Work Study program, a student must:
- For the Summer semester: No enrollment required; however, students must return to full-time study the following Fall semester. For the Fall and Winter semesters: Be and stay enrolled in a minimum of 9 UFV credits throughout the semester or 6 UFV credits for students who have a documented permanent disability which affects his/her ability to participate in full-time studies and are registered with Disability Services; If no credits are assigned the student must be enrolled in a minimum of 18 hours of non-credit courses per week .
- Hold and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or greater. Students in programs that do not assign a GPA (e.g. Trades, Teacher Education Program) must have advanced at a reasonable pace. To provide proof of eligibility, you may access your student record through MyUFV.
- International Students who meet these criteria are eligible to apply for Work Study positions.
- Students may hold only ONE position funded by the Work Study Grant program per semester.
- Students graduating in the semester for which the Work Study Grant has been awarded may complete the full allocation of hours.
You may apply to Work Study Positions through CareerLink. The Summer 2013 positions will begin to be posted in the first week of April online in CareerLink. If you haven't already done so, register now with CareerLink to gain access to job postings and much more!
**Work Study postings come out three times per year at the beginning of each semester.
To gain access to work study postings:
- Log in to CareerLink
- On your home page, click on Jobs on the top bar, choose All Jobs Posted to UFV
- At the drop down list for Position Type, choose UFV Work Study
- You may apply to most Work Study postings directly through CareerLink
Hours per week and wage:
Students may work up to 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week; the current wage is $10.25 per hour (plus 10% in lieu of all benefits) effective May 1, 2012. A student may hold only ONE Work-Study position per semester.
