Faculty Instructing in UFV Computer Labs
Reporting computer problems
Please report any computer workstation or instructor podium problems immediately to the IT Services Help Desk or as soon as possible after the end of a class so IT Services technicians can work on solving the issue. Include a room and a computer number of workstation affected. IT Services Help Desk is local 4610 or helpdesk.its@UFV.ca. Or report your computer problem directly at ehelpdesk.ufv.ca.
Software in Labs
IT Services provides a list of available academic software in the labs on the IT Services website. Faculty requiring special instructional software or changes to the set of standard software must inform the IT Services, Manager of Instructional Technology and Client Support, by the following deadlines:
- Summer Semester changes must be submitted before Feb 1
- Fall Semester changes must be submitted before Jun 1
- Winter Semester changes must be submitted before Oct 1
Instructor login
Use the instructor account to log into the student network in an eRoom or or computer lab. The instructor computer account provides general internet browsing and access to the following UFV network drives:
R: drive instructor area for class demos; students do not see; other instructors see when they log in P: drive student public storage space Q: drive instructor network storage (student read-only access)
IT Services advises against logging into the student computer workstations with the instructor account because students will then have read/write access to drives listed above.
Contact the IT Services Help Desk for the current semesters username and password for the instructor computer account.
COWs (computers on wheels)
A COW (computer on wheels) is a portable computer system designed for instruction and typically includes:
- A cart with wheels
- A computer system and monitor with network and internet connection
- A projection system so the monitor image projects to a full wall screen for audience viewing
- Speakers for multi-media presentations
ETS COWs are kept in various caches for your convenient pickup and return. Transport a COW to a traditional classroom, connect it to the UFV network (and Internet) and use for demonstration, presentation, or other instructional purposes.
Employees and students can book a COW online through Educational Technology Services at local 4546 in Abbotsford or local 2617 in Chilliwack.
eRooms
eRooms are classrooms that include an instructor podium wtih a computer with network access; a data projector; a VHS/DVD player; a sound system and a computer jack for laptops.
The ETS website has a visual inventory of erooms and equipment available in the rooms.
Reserve an eRoom through Room Bookings in Admissions and Records.
If the instructor workstation is not working, first re-boot the computer prior to contacting the IT Services Help Desk as this may resolve the problem(s).

The campus card is used by faculty and staff for photocopying and printing. The cost to copy in the faculty areas is $0.08 per page. Funds can be added to your campus card at one of the UFV Bookstores.
