There are no music classes being offered in the Summer 2013 Semester. Check back in Junefor the Fall 2013 music course offerings.
Interdisciplinary Studies in Music The music curriculum at UFV addresses music as a social and artistic practice; no prior knowledge, special skills, or aptitudes are required. Our courses explore musical traditions and cultures from a range of historical, theoretical, and global perspectives. The courses are designed for students and teachers with broad interests in music, literature, history, media studies, psychology, and the visual arts.
Students investigate such topics as the history of musical theatre; the impact of globalization on local and regional musical cultures; the role of literature in music history; the functions of music in everyday life; the psychology of music and the development of music perception; the interplay between classical and popular music, and between Western and non-Western traditions; and the impact of the music industry and new media on the types of music that become most popular. Our music courses will be useful to students who plan to teach music, those who want to do honours or graduate work in this area, and any student who wants to better understand the complexities of musical experience and practice in a wider perspective.
