Getting started for new users:

Facilitator: Michelle Johnson, Educational Technologist 

Participants in this face-to-face workshop will receive step-by-step instruction on how to activate, connect to, and navigate the new Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing tool. We will focus on the essential components such as downloading needed software, connecting a microphone and or a web camera, and how to troubleshoot potential technical issues in order to make your first Blackboard Collaborate session a success. Web cameras and headsets will be provided but you may also bring your own if you have them. Space is limited and register is required for this workshop. Email tlcevents@ufv.ca to register.

 

Blackboard Collaborate Essentials

Participants in this workshop will get a solid foundation, enabling them to successfully deliver live, interactive Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing sessions. Participants will learn how to effectively manage the session communication tools, display PowerPoint content and record sessions for later playback.

Participant Requirements:

This workshop is held online on Blackboard Collaborate. If you have not logged into Collaborate previously we recommend logging in 15-30 minutes early to ensure we are able to start on time.  We also recommend everyone have their own computer to log in with and microphone if possible so you are able to participate in all the hands on activities.

Blackboard Workshops

Blackboard Learn Introductory Workshop & Lab

This workshop will provide you with an overview of Blackboard Learn.  Topics include: how to navigate Blackboard, how to personalize your course, and how to use Blackboard tools to add and organize course content. We will discuss design issues and best practices for online courses.

Lab: The last hour of this workshop is an optional hands-on lab for course development. ETS/Online staff will be available to answer questions and assist you with your individual Blackboard course shells.

Note: You may wish to bring a digital photo or avatar of yourself to create a welcome message during the workshop. You may also wish to bring a course syllabus, or other course content to upload.

Blackboard Learn Full Grade Centre - Gordon Jang

This is an advanced workshop. First hour we will provide an overview of the Full Grade Centre. We will review the basics for faculty who want to manually create columns to provide grades and feedback. We will then look at other tools to help you to manage the grade centre, such as Column Organization, Catagories and Smartviews. We'll go over Weighted Grades vrs. Total column. Second hour, we'll have open lab time to discuss use case scenerio or a time to address any other areas of Blackboard.
