Workplace TASK (Training in Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge for the Workplace)

Program Overview & Entrance Requirements

Course Desciption:  This eight-month program offers students with disabilities the opportunity to gain self-management and employment skills and develop realistic career objectives in their chosen field while in the classroom. Students will participate in a series of employability workshops such as WHMIS, Food Safe, WorldHost etc. They will learn basic computer skills, including e-mail and internet. In addition, students gain on-the-job experience while on community-based work placements. Overall, the program will provide the employability, skills and experience necessary for students to find employment or gain access to further training at UFV or elsewhere.

Entrance Requirements:

-19 years of age before entering the programs

- history of a disability (documentation is not required but is helpful. History may include having services such as TA in school etc.)

- safe in the community (this is about being able to get to and from the university and work experience sites independently. As well, there is no supervision during lunch, etc.)

- self-motivated to find competitive paid employment

- successful interview with instructor

Course scheduling and location:  TASK is a full-time program that runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. four days per week from September to late April. The program consists of six courses, offered over two semesters. TASK 051, 052, and 053 classes are offered in the Fall semester (September to December). TASK 053 includes WHMIS, FoodSafe, WorldHost, and First Aid certificate workshops. TASK 054, 055, and 056 classes are offered in the Winter semester (January to April). 

Students must participate in all six courses and successfully complete a work experience placement in order to receive a University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) certificate.

The TASK program is offered during the school year at the UFV campus in Chilliwack.

Evaluations:  Students must participate or show proof of knowledge in all modules and successfully complete a work experience placement in order to receive a UFV certificate.
