Biography

Karin Jager is a design educator, creative leader and advocate for the design profession. Joining UFV in 2012, Karin launched the Fraser Valley's premier graphic and digital design programs, and more recently the Graphic and Digital Design Major in the BFA. Her students, peers, and the potential for purpose-built learning in the Fraser Valley are her inspiration.Through Karin’s extensive design practice in corporate communication and social design, she has built strong relationships and a robust professional network. Serving the Graphic Designers of Canada(GDC) as VP Education National from 2012–2014, she supported a community of Canadian design educators and continues to engage in professional associations in both the US and Canada. Karin’s academic career began in 1995 at Capilano University. Actively contributing in a leadership capacity, she was instrumental in developing the highly successful IDEA Program and co-authored its Bachelor of Design in Visual Communication. Her service includes participating as an expert reviewer of design programs in Ontario, BC (DQAB), and Alberta (CAQC). Current research interests encompass future-focused design education. Karin holds a Master’s Degree in Education majoring in post-secondary leadership from Simon Fraser University and a 4-year undergrad from Emily Carr College of Art and Design. Motivated by what design can do, she values the student experience and community engagement.
