PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The UFV Aircraft Structures Technician program is offered at UFV Aerospace Centre at the Abbotsford International Airport. It is Transport Canada-approved and provides you with a thorough introduction to the aircraft repair and maintenance trade, including:

  • Manufacturing, modifying, and repairing  sheet metal parts, structures, and panels to exacting tolerances
  • Repair and overhaul of fixed-wing aircraft
  • Rotary wing (helicopter) repair and overhaul
  • Aircraft parts manufacturing
  • Composite component fabrication and repair
  • Aircraft structures assembly and modification
  • Using and interpreting manufacturers structural repair manuals

CAREER EXPECTATIONS

Graduates will be well prepared to enter the industry as an aircraft structures apprentice with hands-on shop projects and real-life damage scenarios. The program is worth 11 months credit and allows graduates to go on to earn the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer “S” license.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school graduation or equivalent  (or a letter from your school stating you will graduate)
  • Successful completion of math and reading entrance exam

UPGRADING OPTIONS FOR PEOPLE IN THE WORKFORCE

If you’re currently or recently employed as a aircraft technician, our upgrading program allows you to complete your certificate requirements or to become proficient in a specific process or technique.

As an upgrading student, you are expected to meet program prerequisites through previous enrolment or proof of industry experience, approved by the program instructor. Acceptance by Transport Canada for completion of a single module is assessed on an individual basis.

Upgrading students cannot be enrolled for more than 13 weeks or cannot displace anyone registered in an upcoming intake.This might suit you if you have attended training at UFV before, or you wish to enhance your skills by attending a course that deals specifically with sheet metal or composite repair.
