UFV's Bachelor of Arts with a minor or extended minor in Creative Writing gives you the skills to develop your personal style and to become a better writer and storyteller.
UFV offers a wide range of writing genres to explore, such as fiction, drama, poetry, and screenwriting.
In your first and second year, you learn the fundamental techniques and strategies of creative writing, practise your writing in various genres, and learn to critique writing in a co-operative workshop setting. You hone you expertise and expand your writing repertoire as you participate in constructive critique sessions with your classmates.
In your third and fourth year, you take advanced, genre-specific courses to develop the skills particular to the topics that you are passionate about. Write your own novel, become proficient in poetry or prose, or create your own screenplay.
The ability to write well is a highly sought-after skill that can take you to many different industries such as business, marketing, journalism, publishing or new media.

Note: You can also take a Creative Writing concentration as part as a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English.
Join UFV's creative writing club, CreWri. CreWri isn’t just for English or Fine Arts majors; as long as want to develop your creative writing skills and wish to join a group of people who are also writers, you are welcome to sign up. Get published in UFV's Louden Singletree Literary and Visual Arts Magazine. Launched in 2008, the Louden Singletree magazine is a student-based initiative, which aims to assemble the best literature and visual art from UFV, including submissions from students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Thanks to emerging technologies in the book publishing industry, writers can reach readers both in print and online. Digital books are now accounting for 20% of most publishers’ sales revenue. E-readers have reduced inventory and distribution costs (always high in a country as large as Canada), eliminated returns, and increased direct-to-consumer sales.
The demand for writing and editing skills within both traditional and new media is growing. Graduates can find work in publishing, journalism, freelance writing, marketing, business, media and communications, and education. Firms working in new technologies also look for writers to fill positions as web producers, content strategists, and technical writers.
The entrance requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree will apply to the Creative writing program.
