UFV invites applications for a one-year Limited Term Faculty appointment in its Teacher Education Department (TED) which includes undergraduate level prerequisite courses and post-degree three-semester programs for prospective elementary, middle and secondary teachers. Candidates enrolled in the three semester program are grouped into K-7 and 8-12 groups using a cohort model. The next intake will consist of 64 teacher candidates grouped into one elementary/ middle and one secondary module beginning in September 2017. The program is located on the Abbotsford campus.

This position is for an individual who enjoys the challenge of working in an innovative program and whose philosophy about teacher education is consistent with TED’s Mission Statement, Department Values and Program Goals. The successful candidate would have knowledge of the five department values and be able to embed these values into curriculum design and delivery. The elementary/middle and secondary program structures can be found at  It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be able to teach both the elementary and secondary level cohorts across specific subject areas.


Individuals will be expected to teach courses in the TED, work collaboratively with a variety of faculty and seconded faculty mentors, and be part of the TED candidate admissions and orientation processes. There are additional expectations involving service to the university and the local community. A key responsibility of faculty in the TED is to ensure that teachers who successfully complete the UFV program meet all program goals for the Bachelor of Education, demonstrate TED values, and are fully aware of their obligations to adhere to the British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch (BCTRB) Standards.

The course expectations for the LTA is as follows:

  • Special Education: EDUC 200 (Educational psychology), EDUC 412 (Introduction to development and special learning needs), and EDUC 413 (Adolescent development and special education). Service expectations will include the development of an online EDUC 200 course.



  1. K – 12 teaching certificate with classroom experience (preferably in the public school system)
  2. Bachelor of Education (Masters in a related field preferred)
  3. Knowledge of the BC school system (preferably in local school districts)
  4. Evidence of instruction in teacher education in the aforementioned specialty areas
  5. Evidence of experience and/or scholarship oriented toward a progressive vision of public education that is inclusive and committed to social justice, critical thinking, reflective practice and professional learning communities
