The Upgrading and University Preparation (UUP) department at UFV invites applications from qualified individuals for one (1) permanent 0.67 faculty position. The department is seeking applicants who can teach and develop Adult Basic Education (ABE) chemistry courses.
UFV’s UUP department offers ABE courses to help adults upgrade their literacy and numeracy skills, complete high school to earn the B.C. Adult Graduation Diploma (Adult Dogwood), meet employment requirements, or complete prerequisite courses for post-secondary programs. To accommodate the diverse needs of adult learners, classes are offered morning, afternoon, and evening. UUP also offers a Training in Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge for the Workplace (Workplace TASK) program for students with disabilities.
The department currently has ten permanent faculty, three permanent staff, and sessional faculty instructors.
The successful candidate will be required to teach Advanced and Provincial Adult Basic Education (ABE) Chemistry courses and must be able to teach on both the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses and accommodate a teaching schedule that will change semester-to-semester.
As the UUP department attracts a wide range of students from all demographics, the successful candidate will bring a demonstrated ability to embrace inclusiveness and diversity in the classroom, provide educational and developmental mentorship/leadership to students, and build relationships with institutional and community partners.
In keeping with UFV’s three-fold mandate of teaching, scholarship, and service, the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability and willingness to actively and competently participate in all three areas. The successful candidate also will be expected to engage in committee work for the department, institution, and communities UFV serves.
