Floral Design Certificate Program

This certificate program will offer you in-depth, comprehensive training that is designed to prepare you for direct employment in the floral industry. Along with a significant theory component, the program is practical and current in terms of course content and relevancy to the field. Emphasis is on mastering the correct mechanics and basic shapes of floral design using fresh, treated, and dried floral products. You will also learn some advanced techniques.

The program consists of six modules:

• Floral Design Basics I
• Floral Design Basics II
• Christmas Arrangements
• Special Occasion/Silk and Dried Flowers
• Sympathy and Church Flowers
• Wedding Flowers

Each of the six modules are 10 sessions- two evening sessions per week for five weeks. Floral Design 1, Floral Design 2, and Floral Design Christmas are usually offered from September to December (see 2016/2017 schedule change below). Special Occasion, Sympathy and Church, and Weddings are offered between February and June. You will need to purchase a textbook but all materials costs are included in the module cost. Apply the following classes towards a Floral Design certificate or take them as stand-alone classes.

Floral Design Basics 2
Prerequisite: Floral Design Basics I
Acquire the skills needed to work independently on basic flower arrangements. Learn about sales, pricing, plant identification, and advanced design work. Make your own floral arrangements to take home. Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.

Floral Design — Special Occasions
Learn the skills needed to decorate with a variety of materials other than flowers, and to incorporate floral and non-floral
products into an arrangement. Topics include historical background of special holidays, product information, hospital
guidelines for flowers, plant identification, and designs. Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.

Floral Design — Sympathy and Church
Learn to create funeral arrangements and other church decorations. Topics include plant identification and designs such
as casket sprays, funeral bouquets, wreaths, baskets, and church bouquets. Also receive guidelines to make sales and process
invoices. Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.

Floral Design — Weddings
Learn fundamental skills to produce wedding bouquets and arrangements. Topics include marketing, including sales and
advertising, as well as plant identification and designs for all around, contemporary, and hand-tied bouquets, hair flowers,
corsages, and church arrangements. Flowers and floral supplies are included in the course fee.
