Biography

A graduate of Emily Carr University, University of Windsor and the Langara College Film Arts’ Directing Stream, Melanie Jones is a multi-disciplinary artist and filmmaker teaching and working in the areas of Sculpture, Extended Media, Video Art and Narrative Film. Her films have screened worldwide and garnered dozens of awards and nominations, including the highly competitive TIFF-CBC Screenwriter Award (2021). She is also an alumna of numerous talent labs including the TIFF Writer’s Studio, Women in the Director’s Chair, Reykjavik Talent Lab, Whistler Film Festival Women in Focus Program, Netflix-Banff Diversity of Voices Initiative and WIFTV From Our Dark Side Genre Incubator. Her love of storytelling and materials comes together in whimsical sculptures that employ a variety of mediums including ceramics, mold-making, assemblage, process-based art, and multi-media to engage the viewer in complex questions of identity and belonging.
