Wendy in Nairobi, on her way to Juba to train the trainers

Speaker: Wendy Burton
Topic: Did you mean to say Cuba? Training the trainer in Juba, Southern Sudan

This presentation will describe two recent trips to Southern Sudan to work on an initiative of the Canadian Government, with the support of United Nations Mission in Sudan, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, and the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform, in cooperation with the Government of Southern Sudan. The project intends, among many other outcomes, to provide professional development to staff within the ranks of the Prison Service of Southern Sudan. In addition to work place literacy, the education and training includes all facets of prison operation and administration, with a clear focus on human rights, including developing opportunities for women staff members. A “train the trainer” model is used, which presents challenges for the educator from afar as well as the educators “on the ground.”
