Upon completion of either UFV ETP program with the required GPA, students will be allowed to enter the second-year Engineering programs at UBC and UVic without any additional qualifying courses.
Students can transfer to UBC Applied Science (Engineering) either by completing the ETP courses or by completing first year sciences. Students that complete the ETP are guaranteed admission to the second year of the UBC program, and may be admitted with a lower grade point average than students trying to enter from first-year General Sciences.
Similarly, students can transfer to UVic after successfully completing the ETP, and are guaranteed admission to second year.
Both institutions only look at the courses the student took and not the name of the UFV program, and as such students do not need to be admitted to UFV’s ETP to be considered Engineering Transfer students.
At both UBC and UVic there is a GPA based competition to decide which students are admitted to which specialty (e.g. Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering). All students entering second year (including those that start at UBC or UVic) must take part in this competition. First year grades are critical!
Once admitted to a specialty a student will typically stay in that specialty for the next three years learning the skills specific to that branch of Engineering.
