UFV-administered bursaries

If you can show genuine financial need, you may qualify for a non-repayable grant, called a bursary.

To apply for a bursary, you must:

• Demonstrate genuine financial need
• Be enrolled in a UFV program at a post-secondary level
• Show satisfactory academic achievement (2.0 GPA or better)
• Meet the criteria outlined in the bursary description
• Provide all documentation required with your bursary application
• Be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant

First consideration is given to students who have exhausted all other types of funding (i.e., government  programs).  Students who have not accessed government funding may receive bursaries based on the availability of funds.

You can apply for bursaries per semester. Bursary amounts range in value, with a maximum of $1,500 per semester and a $4,500 maximum per academic year (September - August).

When can I apply?

In the summer, at least one of your courses must run the full Summer semester (May – to August). Alternatively, you can combine one course in the early session with one course in the late session.

Expect to receive notification four to five weeks after you submit your application.

ABBOTSFORD CHAMBER MEMBERS ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $900

AVAILABLE TO:  UFV student in a program in the department of Business Administration.

ABBOTSFORD KINSMEN - KELLY LENIHAN MEMORIAL ANNUAL BURSARY 

- to honour a member of the Abbotsford Kinsmen's Club, who died tragically in a motor vehicle accident.

 AMOUNT: 1 @ $1,000 or 2 @ $500

AVAILABLE TO: A full-time student in a diploma or degree program, which will lead to a career in the helping professions including Social Services, Early Childhood Education/Child and Youth Care, Adult Education, or Nursing.

CRITERIA:

• be enrolled in full-time studies (minimum three classes)
• have completed at least one year of studies at UFV
• have good academic standing
• provide evidence of financial need
• submit a letter outlining their career and education goals
• present one letter of reference attesting to the applicant's high ideals and quality of citizenship

ABBOTSFORD QUILTERS GUILD ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT: 1 @ $500 

AVAILABLE TO: A UFV student enrolled in the Fashion Design program pursuing courses in the Textiles Option and registered in a minimum of 3 courses. Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

 CRITERIA:

• The recipient of this award must be registered in a Fashion Design - Textile option course during the Fall semester and be returning for the Winter semester.
• The successful applicant will have attained a B grade or better in the textile option course and three other fashion courses.
• Student must also demonstrate financial need. 
• Include a letter outlining their career and educational goals, as well as an explanation on how the award will assist the attainment of these goals.

ALFRED KNOWLES ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:    Amounts vary according to financial need.  Most bursaries will be approximately $100 - $1,500 per semester, up to a maximum of $4,500 per academic year (September - August)

AVAILABLE TO: UFV students who are enrolled in a post-secondary program at UFV and who, along with their families where possible, are contributing towards their educational costs, have exhausted all other types of funding (i.e.  government assistance programs), but still require and merit further financial assistance.

CRITERIA:

• Applicants must show genuine financial need. Awards are contingent upon satisfactory progress (2.0 GPA) at UFV.

ANNIE DUNKERLEY ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  2 @ $500

AVAILABLE:  A mature student (25 years or older) enrolled in a UFV Horticulture studies program.

APPLIED BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  1 @ $500

AVAILABLE TO:  Students enrolled in the UFV Applied Business Technology program who demonstrate financial need.

B.C. LUNG ASSOCIATION NURSING ANNUAL BURSARY

 AMOUNT: 1 @ $1,000 or 2 @ $500

AVAILABLE TO: A worthy second-year nursing student who is in good academic standing in the program and who is in financial need.

BETTY URQUHART ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT: 1 @. $1,100

AVAILABLE TO: A mature student (25 years or older) residing in Chilliwack, Agassiz, or Hope who is continuing full-time studies in a UFV program that leads to a diploma or degree.

CRITERIA:

• Preference will be given to applicants with a good academic standing who present evidence of volunteer community support work and involvement over the past three years.
• Financial need will also be an important consideration.
• Applicants should submit a letter which describes their career and educational goals along with their application.

BRANT JOHN BORDEWICK CAMPIONI MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT BURSARY

This bursary was established in memory of Brant Campioni who graduated from the Coastal Pacific Aviation/UFV Business diploma program in 1993, and was tragically killed in an air accident in 2002. Aviation thrilled, inspired and challenged Brant, this bursary commemorates his spirit, as well as his love for life and the aviation industry.

  AMOUNT: 1 @ $500

AVAILABLE TO: A full-time student enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration in Aviation program or the Aviation Diploma.

CRITERIA:

• Applicants must be enrolled in full-time studies (minimum of three courses).
• Applicants must be a Canadian citizen.
• Academic standing must be average or better.
• Applicants must provide evidence of financial need.
• Outline personal interests, career and educational goals, and reasons why they have chosen this field.
• A letter of reference attesting to the applicant's dedication and/or talent in aviation.

CANACCORD WEALTH MANAGEMENT ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  1 @ $1,000

AVAILABLE TO:  A student in their third or fourth year of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at UFV who is enrolled in full-time studies (at least 9 credits per semester).  Preference given to a student who demonstrates volunteer work on campus or in the community and is going into the Investment Field.

CANADIAN DAUGHTERS LEAGUE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT: 1 @ $1,075
AVAILABLE TO:  A student who is a Canadian born woman who is enrolled or accepted into the UFV Applied Business Technology program.

CHILLIWACK FOUNDATION ANNUAL BURSARIES

AMOUNT:  10 @ $1,000

AVAILABLE TO: Full-time UFV students enrolled in a minimum of 3 courses, who reside in the Chilliwack, Agassiz, Harrison or Hope area.

CRITERIA:

• Enrolled in a program, which can lead to a certificate, diploma or degree.
• Must identify vocational or academic goals.
• Students who, along with their families, where possible, are contributing towards their educational costs.
• Applicants must demonstrate genuine financial need.
• Must show satisfactory academic achievement or potential for satisfactory achievement (2.0 GPA or better).
• Must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

CONTINUING STUDIES ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT: Up to $1,000 per year (several available - limited funds) Will be applied directly to tuition fees.

AVAILABLE TO: Students who have B.C. Secondary School graduation or equivalent, 19 years of age or older and who are taking courses leading to employment through UFV Continuing Studies.

CRITERIA:

• Applicants must be enrolling in a Continuing Studies course
• Must demonstrate high financial need to be eligible for funding.
• Courses will only be funded once (no repeat funding for repeated courses).

DEADLINE: Ongoing as funds permit. 

CREDIT UNION FOUNDATION OF BRITISH COLUMBIA ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT: Up to $1,000 (limited funds)

AVAILABLE TO: Student or students who might otherwise have difficulty completing their studies by reason of financial hardship.

CRITERIA:  Applicants are to be Canadians residing in British Columbia and in attendance at UFV.

DENBOW ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $800 (approx,)

AVAILABLE TO:  A UFV student currently in their first, second or third year.  Preference given to student who demonstrates volunteerism in the community.

DONNA SHAW MEMORIAL ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $500

AVAILABLE TO:  A female UFV student with preference given to a part-time student.

DR. H.A. BASSFORD AND MS. JANE L. DARVILLE ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  Amounts vary according to financial need.  Most bursaries will be approximately $100 - $1,500.
 
AVAILABLE TO:  Preference given to students who are in the final year of their program.  The Dr. H.A. Bassord and Ms. Jane L. Darville Endowment Bursary Fund will be open to all students regardless of whether or not they have accessed govenment or bank student assistance programs.

DWIGHT JASPER MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT: $250

EASTER SEALS BC ENDOWMENT BURSARY

(BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities)

 AMOUNT: 2 @ $700 

AVAILABLE TO: A UFV student who is a resident of BC and has one or more physical or developmental disabilities.

CRITERIA:

• Student must be enrolled part-time or full-time in post secondary course(s) at UFV.
• Student must demonstrate financial need and provide documentation of their disability.

EDUCATIONAL ADVANCEMENT ANNUAL BURSARY FOR SOCIAL WORK STUDENTS 

 AMOUNT:  1 @ $1,000

AVAILABLE TO:  Students demonstrating financial need who are enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of the UFV Bachelor of Social Work Program, with preference given to 4th year students pursuing graduate work in the field of Social Work.

CRITERIA: 

• A GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Applicants must be continuing students enrolled in three or more courses in the UFV Bachelor of Social Work degree program
• Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant

ERM FIORILLO - HAL DAVIS CKNW ORPHANS' FUND ENDOWMENT BURSARY

The CKNW Orphans' Fund has established a permanent endowment to provide awards to students who are completing their education with good academic standing

AMOUNT: 1 @ $300

AVAILABLE TO: Any student who wishes to pursue full-time studies at UFV in Applied Business Technology, Legal Secretary or a related field.

CRITERIA:

• Applicants are to be Canadian citizens who live in the UFV geographical area. 
• Must have been out of school for at least two years.
• In the process of making either a career change or a transition from home to work.
• Applicants must also show a need for financial assistance to commence studies at UFV.

IRENE KELLEHER MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  2 @ $1,337

• Recipients must be continuing students enrolled in three or more courses in any UFV credit program (UFV will confirm enrollment before funds are released)
• Students must demonstrate financial need

KEITH AND MARGARET (FANE) RUTLEDGE ENDOWMENT BURSARY IN AIRCRAFT STRUCTURES

KINSMEN CLUB OF LANGLEY ENDOWMENT BURSARY

- The Kinsmen Club of Langley has a proud history in the community that spans over 65 years.  Their commitment to "Serving the Community's Greatest Need" inspired them to create this fund in support of Langley secondary students.

AMOUNT:  2 @ $1,000

AVAILABLE TO:  UFV students who are a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and have completed their highest level of secondary school or graduated from the Langley School District (SD #35); who have financial need and have a proven commitment to volunteerim or community service.

LESLIE HALVORSON MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT BURSARY 

 AMOUNT: 1 @ $550

AVAILABLE TO: Single mother attending UFV as a full-time student in the Social Services or Social Work program (diploma or degree).

LIBRARY AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STUDENT ASSOCIATION ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  1 @ $500

AVAILABLE TO:  A full- or part-time Library and information Technology student.  The student must have completed at least one LIBT course.  Preference will be given to a first time recipient.

AMOUNT:  $925

MUTUAL FIRE INSURANCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA ANNUAL BURSARY

AVAILABLE TO: UFV students who have completed at least one semester, full time in any Agriculture program.

• Must show satisfactory achievement or potential for satisfactory achievement (2.0 GPA or better)

PAUL MURRARY MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $1,625

AVAILABLE TO:  Students enrolled in the second year of the UFV Bachelor of Business Administration in Aviation degree or 2 year Aviation diploma program.

AMOUNT: $1025

AVAILABLE TO: A UFV mature female student (25 years or older) from Chilliwack entering 2nd, 3rd or 4th year.

CRITERIA:

• Preference will be given to a mature woman with family responsibilities who is enrolled in full-time studies.

AMOUNT:  2 @ $750

RON BUCHANAN MEMORIAL BURSARY IN AVIATION

AMOUNT:  $1,000

AVAILABLE TO:  Students who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled in the Aviation Diploma program or the Bachelor of Business Administration in aviation program.

ROSY AND STEVEN CHAN MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $380  (value of the award will fluctuate each year based on the endowment return)

AVAILABLE TO:  A student registered in the UFV Social Work/Human Services program.  Preference will be first given to an aboriginal student who isn't eligible for band funding (documentation required).  If no such student applied this award is then made available to a student from a visible minority.

ROTARY CLUB OF ABBOTSFORD - MATSQUI ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  1 @ $1,000

AVAILABLE TO:  Students enrolled in UFV post-secondary programs who demonstrate financial need.

SODEXO ANNUAL BURSARY IN CULINARY ARTS

AMOUNT:  $500

AVAILABLE TO:  Students who are currently enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at UFV.  Applicants must show genuine financial need.  Awards are contingent upon satisfactory progress (2.0 GPA) at UFV.

SONNY SATBANT SINGH MOORE MEMORIAL ANNUAL BURSARY 

This scholarship is established in memory of Sonny Moore of Burnaby, who passed away suddenly in 2011.  Sonny was known and loved by many.  This bursary commemorates his generosity by supporting a UFV student in need.

AMOUNT:  $500

AVAILABLE TO:  A UFV student that meets the following criterla:

• Demonstrate genuine financial need;
• Enrolled in a UFV English as a Second Language (ESL) or Upgrading and University Prep (UUP) course;
• Show satisfactory academic achievement.

SUSAN WITTER ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $400

AVAILABLE TO:  Students who demonstrate financial need and have B.C. Secondary School graduation or equivalent, 19 years of age or older and who are taking courses leading to employment through UFV Continuing Studies. 

 CRITERIA:

• Applicants must be enrolling in a Continuing Studies course
• Must demonstrate high financial need to be eligible for funding.

TD INDIA CANADA STUDIES ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  1 @ $725

AVAILABLE TO: A UFV student who is enrolled in or has completed a minimum of 6 credits applicable to the India Canada Studies program.

TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  3 @ $ 250

AVAILABE TO:  The Teacher Education Program at UFV has created three bursaries for students currently enrolled in the program with demonstrated financial need.

THE CHILLIWACK FIELD NATURALISTS' ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $500

AVAILABLE TO:  A UFV student enrolled in his/her 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study in biology, ecology, conservation, or in another area of environmental studies.

TIM SEGGER ENDOWMENT BURSARY

AMOUNT:  $575

AVAILABLE TO:  Students who are enrolled in a post-secondary program at UFV and who, along with their families where possible, are contributng towards their educational costs and have exhausted all other types of funding (i.e. government assistance programs), but still require and merit further financial assistance.  Applicants must show genuine financial need.  Awards are contingent upon satisfactory progress (2.0 GPA) at UFV.

UFV BOARD ANNUAL BURSARIES

AMOUNT: Amounts vary according to financial need.  Most bursaries will be approximately $100 - $1,200 per semester, up to a maximum of $3,600 per academic year (September - August)

AVAILABLE TO: UFV students who are enrolled in a post-secondary program at UFV and who, along with their families where possible, are contributing towards their educational costs, have exhausted all other types of funding (i.e.  government assistance programs), but still require and merit further financial assistance.

CRITERIA:

• Applicants must show genuine financial need. Awards are contingent upon satisfactory progress (2.0 GPA) at UFV.

UFV DEVELOPMENT OFFICE ANNUAL BURSARY

The UFV Development Office Annual Bursary was created to provide financial assistance to students in need while raising awareness of what philanthropy means to us as individuals and to UFV

AMOUNT:  $500 (approx.)

AVAILABLE TO:  A UFV student that meets the following criteria:

• Demonstrate genuine financial need
• Enrolled in a UFV program at a post-secondary level
• Show satifactory academic achievement (2.0 GPA or better)
• In keeping with UFV's culture of giving, applicants are asked to express in writing "What does philanthropy mean to you and to your community" in under 1,000 words.

UFV FINANCE DEPARTMENT ANNUAL BURSARY IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

AMOUNT:  $500

AVAILABLE TO:  Students in the Degree program for Business Administration.  Preference will be given to students with an Accounting concentration.

UFV RETIREES' BURSARY 

The UFV Retirees' Bursary was established by the staff and faculty whom have dedicated themselves to making a difference to our students.  The Bursary provides and opportunity for UFV employees to give a cash gift in honour of a colleqgue(s) that is retiring, or is retired, and contribute to a bursary that provides financial assistance to students in need.

AMOUNT:    Amounts vary according to financial need.  Most bursaries will be approximately $100 - $1,500 per semester, up to a maximum of $4,500 per academic year (September - August)

AVAILABLE TO: UFV students who are enrolled in a post-secondary program at UFV and who, along with their families where possible, are contributing towards their educational costs, have exhausted all other types of funding (i.e.  government assistance programs), but still require and merit further financial assistance.

AMOUNT:  8 @ $500

AVAILABLE TO:  Any UFV student returning to UFV who demonstrates financial need.

UNISOURCE ANNUAL BURSARY

AMOUNT: 1 @ $500

AVAILABLE TO:  A student in their second year (completed minimum 30 credits) of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at UFV who is enrolled in full-time studies (at least 9 credits per semester).
