Career Centre

Message from the Director

Welcome to the UFV Career Centre!

The Theory

Being a University student is not easy; it never was. So many impressions to process, content to assimilate, understanding to build, unknowns to navigate, and not much time either. At the end of it is a complete package of talents, interests, competencies, and values. A graduate ready to succeed in the chosen career.

The Reality

The reality is that for most of us the labour market will decide our career path. Consequently, the most important knowledge you will take away from the University is not the one that is discipline-specific, but the one that is transferable between careers. It is transferable skills that will determine your success —transferable cognitive skills (e.g. communication, judgement, problem solving) and transferable life skills (e.g. teamwork, persistence, resilience).

The Function

The function of the Career Centre is to help you develop, articulate, and present these transferable skills listed above.

  • Our Career Services area organizes events where you meet and interact with employers
  • In our Career Peer program you learn how to prepare proper job applications
  • Co-operative Education opens a whole labour market to those registered in the program
  • Our Work Study program offers you part-time job opportunities on campus to gain valuable work experience
  • Our CareerLink online database lets you find hundreds of job openings every semester

Come and see us early in your life as a University student. Take advantage of our knowledge and our contacts, don't be shy.
