Being a University student is not easy; it never was. So many impressions to process, content to assimilate, understanding to build, unknowns to navigate, and not much time either. At the end of it is a complete package of talents, interests, competencies, and values. A graduate ready to succeed in the chosen career.
The reality is that for most of us the labour market will decide our career path. Consequently, the most important knowledge you will take away from the University is not the one that is discipline-specific, but the one that is transferable between careers. It is transferable skills that will determine your success —transferable cognitive skills (e.g. communication, judgement, problem solving) and transferable life skills (e.g. teamwork, persistence, resilience).
The function of the Career Centre is to help you develop, articulate, and present these transferable skills listed above.
Come and see us early in your life as a University student. Take advantage of our knowledge and our contacts, don't be shy.
