Dr. Michael Gaetz
Dr. Gaetz is a Professor of Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University College of the Fraser Valley. He is trained in electrophysiology and records electrical activity from the human brain (electroencephalograpy – EEG), muscle (electrocardiograpy – EMG), and heart (electrocardiogram – ECG). He has used EEG to study the effects of concussion on brain function in amateur athletes. This information has been utilized to help determine when it is safe for an athlete to return to their sport as well as to detect the cumulative effects of these injuries.
Dr. Gaetz is also one of the few experts to use a newly developed technology –magnetoencephalography (MEG) for study brain function in patients with traumatic brain injuries.
