What is New Student Orientation?
New Student Orientation is a day-long introduction to UFV services, people, and community. It is a chance for new students to become acquainted with the campuses, familiarize themselves with the services available to them and make some new friends. Attending Orientation means that you can hit the ground running on the first day of classes without the confusion that comes with being a new student. New Student Orientation is still beneficial even if you have attended your department/program orientation sessions.

Who should attend?
Any student who is new to the UFV community or has spent a few years away from our institution should attend. This includes students that are coming straight from high school, adult learners, and transfer students from other institutions.

When is it?
The next New Student Orientation (Fall 2014) is August 21 in Chilliwack at CEP and August 28 on the Abbotsford campus.

Where is New Student Orientation?

The Student Life department offers an Orientation program on the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses. If you are attending classes on the Mission or Hope campuses, please contact the Student Life department to arrange an introduction to those campuses.

Why should I attend New Student Orientation?
Success comes from a combination of enthusiasm and preparedness. University is very different from high school or working life.  New Student Orientation will provide you with the  tools you need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

Does this program cost anything?
New Student Orientation and the Parent/Family Orientation are FREE programs offered by the Student Life department in conjunction with various departments and services at UFV.

Can parents or family members attend New Student Orientation with their students?
New students need the opportunity to experience UFV on their own, in a supportive environment. We encourage parents or family members to attend our Parent/Family Orientation program. Each year, Parent Orientation is held in June. If you missed the Parent Orientation and would still like the information, please refer to the Parent Orientation page.

Is UFV's New Student Orientation mandatory?
Currently, New Student Orientation is not mandatory, but we strongly encourage you to attend if you are new to the UFV campus community. You will learn a lot that you may have missed on previous tours. The information provided during New Student Orientation will help you with the transition and getting used to university.

Do I have to sign up or can I just show up?

You need to register in order to attend. The easiest way is through our online registration form. Not registering means you may not get into New Student Orientation, as we can only accept a limited number of students. Past orientation sessions have filled, so register today!
