Awards, Scholarships, and Bursaries


UFV Theatre offers a large number of awards and scholarships every year. Please see the list below for more specific information, including how to apply.

ASHLAND EXTERNAL STUDY

AMOUNT: Approx. $1600

Applications are now being accepted for the 2015 Ashland External Study Tour Scholarship.  The scholarship (approx. value $1,600) is a full eight-day theatre experience at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in July 2015.  The scholarship includes travel, accommodation at Southern Oregon University, breakfasts, eight theatre tickets, backstage tour, lecture tickets, discussions and some hosted dinners.  Scholarship students will be part of a 30 member study tour group.  There are two (2) scholarships available this year.

To apply:

Submit a letter to Tour Founder and Coordinator, Ian Fenwick, outlining why you feel this study tour would be valuable to your theatre education and to your future goals.  Also include a copy of your transcript to date (an unofficial one is fine) and a summary of your experience in department activities and productions (include both onstage and backstage work, presentations and DFEST contributions). 

Applications must be submitted by, Friday, October 31 2014 at 4:30 pm.  Selection will be made by a department committee in November.

Selection Criteria:  

1.  Clear indication that the student intends to pursue future theatre studies or a future career in theatre, (including theatre education and related fields).

2.  Record of an all-rounded contribution to the department and its activities.

3.  Written letter outlining how the tour experience will further educational or career goals.

4.  GPA – must be 3.0 or better to apply

CHILLIWACK
PLAYERS GUILD SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT: $500 (one available)

AVAILABLE TO: Students enrolled in the UFV Theatre program who have made an outstanding contribution to the department productions and student life and who will be continuing their theatre studies at UFV.

TO APPLY: Log into MyUFV, click on Student Information, then the tab for Financial Aid. Please inform Theatre Department Assistant, Melanie Wickes, that you have made an application.

DEADLINE: May 10

STIPULATIONS: Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.

FRASER VALLEY STAGE PRODUCTION SOCIETY ANNUAL BURSARY IN THEATRE

AMOUNT:  $500

AVAILABLE TO:  Any UFV student enrolled in the Theatre program. with preference given to a 2nd year student.

HOW TO APPLY:  The Bursary Application is available on-line at MyUFV.  Log into MyUFV, click on Student Information,  then the tab for Financial Aid.

Note that this is a bursary, not a scholarship. Bursaries are awarded on the basis of genuine financial need. Please visit UFV's Financial Aid page


MYRTLE HAWES MEMORIAL AWARD

AMOUNT: Book

AVAILABLE TO: A theatre student who has made an outstanding contribution to the life of the department.

TO APPLY: No application required. Award given on recommendation of the Theatre Department.


LAVERNE ADAMS FIRST NATIONS SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT: $500 (one available)

AVAILABLE TO: A First Nations student who has excelled in the UFV Theatre program.

TO APPLY: Log into MyUFV, click on Student Information, then the tab for Financial Aid. Please inform Theatre Department Assistant, Melanie Wickes, that you have made an application.

DEADLINE: May 10

STIPULATIONS: Applicants must be of First Nations ancestry


NORMA KENNEY MEMORIAL TUITION SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT: Tuition award.

AVAILABLE TO: A UFV student who has completed the first two years and who is continuing as a full-time student in theatre.

TO APPLY: Log into MyUFV, click on Student Information, then the tab for Financial Aid. Please inform Theatre Department Assistant, Melanie Wickes, that you have made an application.

DEADLINE: May 10

STIPULATIONS: Student must have maintained a high academic standing of 3.5 GPA and have made an outstanding contribution to the Theatre Department. Tuition scholarship is only applicable to the next fall and winter semester.


SKYE MACDONALD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN THEATRE

AMOUNT: $500 (one available)

AVAILABLE TO: A student who has completed the first year of a UFV Theatre program and is proceeding full-time into second year.

THEATRE DEPARTMENT SPECIAL STUDENT AWARDS

AMOUNT: Book

AVAILABLE TO: This award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement by a student in the Theatre Department.

TO APPLY: No application required. Award given on recommendation of the Theatre Department.


JODY CAMERON PRODUCTION AWARD

This award was established by the Theatre Department to honour the tremendous contribution made by long time production manager Jody Cameron to the development of the department.

AMOUNT: Book

AVAILABLE TO: This award recognizes outstanding contribution to the season of theatre production teams and to the life of the department.

TO APPLY: No application required. Award given on recommendation of the Theatre Department.


THEATRE STUDENTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT: $500

AVAILABLE TO: A theatre student who excels in their studies and who makes an outstanding contribution to the theatre student association.

ROBERT (BOB) FORSYTHE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Established by the friends of Bob Forsythe to remember an actor and director who touched the lives and lifted the spirits of all who had the privilege of learning from him or watching him perform.

AMOUNT: $500

Available to: Intended to be given to theatre students who show spirit, commitment and potential and who are continuing into upper levels of the program

ROTARY CLUB OF CHILLIWACK THEATRE SCHOLARSHIP

AMOUNT: $1,500

Available to: A student who has excelled in the first two years of the program and who will be continuing their theatre studies at UFV.

ROD COOPER THEATRE AWARD

AMOUNT: $2,500

Available to: A student graduating from the UFV Theatre department who shows promise of a continued career in Theatre. The student must be continuing in graduate studies or be accepted to a program of professional studies in Theatre (including teaching). The student must have completed requirement for graduation in the fall or winter semester prior to the award deadline.

STIPULATIONS: To be eligible, students must:

  • be a graduating student from the UFV Theatre Department
  • be a Canadian Citizen or a landed immigrant
  • be accepted into a graduate studies or professional studies program in Theatre
  • have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
