THEATRE DEPARTMENT
WORK STUDY
The Theatre department participates in UFV’s work study program. There is no gaurantee that all the following positions will be available in any given year however this should give you a clear idea of what positions are available to you.    


Box Office/Promotions Assistant

Under the supervision of the Box Office/Publicity Manager this student assists the Box Office Manager with ticket sales and promotional activities.

Concessions Assistant

Under the supervision of the Production manager, this student assists with management of the Theatre Department's Concessions area. Helps with staffing the concession area during performances, serving beverages and light refreshments to the public. Assists with handling daily cash flow and inventory. Assists with organizing the work of concessions volunteers. Cleans and maintains the concessions area. Assists with the organization, set-up, and clean-up for opening night receptions. Attends production meetings and liaises, as required, with production and front-of-house staff.

Front-of-House Assistant

Under the supervision of the Production Manager, assists with the house management of theatre productions. Assists with the organization of students and volunteers working in the front-of-house area; assists with coordinating the ushers during performances, maintaining safety and professionalism at all times; assists with the set-up, organization, and maintenance of lobby, including displays and publicity materials; assists with organization and maintenance of coat check area and procedures, assists audience members with special needs; attends production meetings and liaises as required with box office staff, concessions staff, backstage personnel, and other production staff.

Technical Theatre Assistant

This student assists with set and prop rentals and loans, documenting and tracking loans, restocking all returns; digitally photographing all new acquisitions and adding them to the department data base; updating catalogues and inventories; assisting with set construction, painting, props building, lighting, sound, rigging, and special effects for summer theatre productions.

Costume Assistant

This student assists with the construction of costumes for theatre productions. Assists the Costume Manager with a variety of wardrobe tasks.
 

Costume/Props Assistant

This student assists with construction of hats, jewelry and costume props. Assist with tracking of production t-shirts and sales. Assists the Costume Manager with rentals and inventory.

Project Assistant

This student assists the Department Head with theatre projects including the Directors’ Festival, play readings, talk back sessions, and student matinees; assists with the planning and scheduling of a variety of projects, researches in department history and maintains and updates history records and archives.
