Senior Citizen Fee Exemption

The University of the Fraser Valley exempts tuition fees for up to two courses (maximum 5 credits each) in Fall and Winter semester for senior citizens. The two course limit does not apply to the Summer semester, however, students in this category are subject to the normal registration limit of 20 credits. Course registration is subject to availability. The student must be 65 years of age or older by the start of classes for the term they are registering in and be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. To register in courses a student will have completed the process for admission to the university by the stated deadlines and be eligible for course registration.

The tuition-free registration period for courses begins approximately two weeks before classes in September and January. The specific dates are available each term from the Office of the Registrar. Students identified as being eligible to register for tuition-free courses will be able to register at their assigned time online, over the phone with the Office of the Registrar, or in person at one of the Abbotsford, Chilliwack, or Mission campuses. Those who wish to register earlier than the tuition-free period may do so on a full-fee basis. This is done by contacting the Office of the Registrar; those who choose this option will not be able to revert back to tuition-free status regardless of space available.

Students who are senior citizens are responsible for the appropriate application fee, ancillary fees, and semester fees as well as any mandatory supplementary course fees (if applicable).

Courses and programs offered on a cost-recovery basis, those in the Faculty of Trades and Technology, and Graduate level courses (numbered 700 and above) are not available for tuition-free registration.

 *Effective Fall 2017
