Career Technical Centre
Website: www.careertechcentre.com
The Career Technical Centre is a joint project of School District #34
(Abbotsford) and the University College of the Fraser Valley. Students enter the
CTC at the Grade 11 level, spend two years enrolled in a specialized career or
technical program, and graduate having fulfilled the requirements for both high
school graduation and a college-level one-year certificate.
CTC is based on the premise that not all high school students plan to go on to
university, and that many would prefer to enter the employment market with
solid, certified, technical skills and career training.
The two-year CTC programs weave secondary schooling and a full year of college
studies into a seamless, fully integrated learning path. Students start their
college-level courses in their Grade 11 year.
The purpose of the centre is to prepare students directly for employment in
their chosen field upon graduation. Or, in some programs they may choose to
“ladder” their UCFV credits into the second year of a two-year diploma or
four-year degree program at UCFV or another post-secondary institution. There
are no tuition fees at CTC, so students get a year of college credit at no cost!
