Welcome from the President

I would like to welcome you personally to UCFV and all we have to offer.

The University College of the Fraser Valley not only has deep roots in the Fraser Valley, but also continues to grow alongside the communities it serves. During its 30-year history, UCFV has gone through a significant expansion, both in terms of numbers and in terms of what the university does. We have developed from a community college to a university college and in recent years to a regional university.

UCFV is a different kind of university. We have much smaller classes than most other institutions, meaning a more intensive interaction between faculty and students. We also offer a much more comprehensive education than most universities. Students can choose among 12 different bachelor degrees (with 22 different majors) and dozens of certificate and diploma programs. In most cases, students can ‘ladder’ from a certificate to a diploma to a degree. Not only does this leave your options open, it greatly increases your opportunity of graduating with a credential that you can really use.

UCFV is also looking to the future. We have increased the number of spaces available in popular first- and second-year courses to improve access for new students. We will also soon be starting construction on a student residence complex on our Abbotsford campus to provide quality lodging for up to 200 students.

These are just a few of the advantages that you will find when you come to learn at UCFV. We are fortunate to be located in one of the most beautiful areas of the province, yet the cost of living is affordable and we are less than an hour away from Vancouver.

We welcome you to come and get the UCFV advantage. Have a look at our programs outlined in this calendar, and don’t hesitate to contact one of our helpful and friendly educational advisors (for information, click here). They can answer your questions or sign you up for an information session.

Thank you for taking a moment to consider UCFV, and best of luck with your studies.
  Dr. H.A. (Skip) Bassford
