Through its Social, Cultural, and Media Studies (SCMS) department, UFV offers a certificate in Media Literacy, a Media and Communication Studies option in the two-year Associate of Arts degree, and a minor in Media and Communication studies as part of its Bachelor of Arts program. In addition, an extended studies in Arts certificate: Media and Communications Studies minor, will allow graduates with a bachelor's degree from a recognized university to complete further work to meet the requirements of majors, extended minors, and minors offered by the Department of Social, Cultural and Media Studies.

Graduates of the Associate of Arts, Media and Communication Studies option, are prepared either to seek employment,  to go on to Royal Roads or Simon Fraser University to complete a BA in Communication, or to ladder into the BA (MACS minor) at UFV.
