Workplace Training in Attitudes, Skills, & Knowledge (TASK)
certificate
This eight-month program offers students with disabilities the opportunity to
gain self-management and employment skills and develop realistic career
objectives in their chosen field while in the classroom. Students will
participate in a series of employability workshops such as WHMIS, Food Safe, and
SuperHost, etc. They will learn basic computer skills, including word processing
and using e-mail and internet. In addition, students gain on-the-job experience
while on community-based work placements. Overall, the program will provide the
employability, skills, and experience necessary for students to find employment
or gain access to further training at UFV or elsewhere.
Entrance requirements
For entry into the Workplace TASK program, students must:
• have a history of a disability (possible documentation: special
education in high school, previous institutional living, other),
• complete an interview with a UFV Workplace TASK instructor to determine
suitability for the program,
• demonstrate essential independent self-management skills (e.g., ability
to access public transport safely or to make other transportation arrangements),
and
• provide two references.
