This class gives you a working knowledge of how to be a receptionist in an often fast-paced environment. Basic telephone skills will be covered as well as working with common computer software found in the clinic for billing and record keeping.

Veterinary Hospital Fundamentals

This class is a continuation and will focus more on the products commonly found in the hospital, basic animal nutrition, and basic grooming like shaving, cleaning ears, or trimming nails. We will touch on handling and animal restraint methods you will need to know. Other topics will include giving medications, filling prescriptions, and parasite control.

This module covers aseptic techniques; surgical packs; instrument identification; gloving; aseptic prepping of the surgeon; anaesthetic machines and associated monitoring equipment; patient prep; pain control; biological samples for lab analysis; and handling, developing, and storing radiographs.

This module will cover basic anatomy and physiology of the digestive, circulatory, lymphatic, urinary, respiratory, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems; senses; animal breeds such as cats, dogs, pocket pets, avian, and large animal issues; medical terminology; vaccination protocols; animal sexing; diseases and injuries; parasitic life cycles; zoonoses; common medical treatments; emergency triage; and alternative therapies for various diseases and/or injuries.

Introduction to Veterinary Pharmaceuticals

This module will cover handling and dispensing of pharmaceuticals; nomenclature of common vet pharmaceutical products; classifications; indications; side effects; administration routes; pharmacy organization; inventory maintenance; dispersing protocols; mathematical calculations including addition, multiplication, division, percentage, ratio, math conversions using scientific notation and unit conversions; correctly calculated dosages; and treatment plans.

This course is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to maintain a clean and aseptic clinical environment, the basic grooming skills necessary for a typical small animal practice, and the knowledge to recognize common dermatology and parasitology conditions and their treatments.
