School of Business
ufv.ca/businessStudents in the third and fourth years of the program may choose to specialize in a functional area of business by taking a selection of prescribed courses as their upper-level electives. Minors typically require a minimum of 7–12 courses including at least 14 upper-level credits in the area of specialization, while majors generally require a minimum of 12–18 courses including at least 30 upper-level credits.
The following majors and minors are available in the BBA program:
Accounting identifies, measures, and communicates economic information to external groups such as investors, and to internal groups, such as managers. Even though many students in this major become accountants, UFV's Accounting major is flexible because of its easily transferable skills. UFV's accounting graduates have also selected careers in areas such as banking, insurance, and consulting.
Students choosing to complete a double major in Accounting and Finance must do an additional three upper-level business courses not mandatory in either major.
The Accounting major provides the prerequisites necessary for the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) program.
This section specifies only the requirements for the Accounting major, which may be completed in the BBA degree. Degree students must ensure that all other degree requirements have been met, including the requirements for declaring a major. For students who are planning on completing this major within their degree program, please check the BBA residency section of the calendar for how many upper-level credits must be completed at UFV in order to graduate with this program.
Core lower-level requirements are covered in the BBA section of the calendar.

The global economy and the global integration of business practices will be a continuing reality in the future. UFV’s International Business (IB) major helps prepare students to succeed in this global environment by providing opportunities to develop intercultural competency in business settings. The program involves the study of business in a foreign culture through a study abroad semester at one of UFV’s international partner universities. The program is also designed to allow students the flexibility to pursue business topics related to their own areas of interest and specialization within an international context. Graduates of the program will be well-positioned to pursue international business opportunities in the Fraser Valley and beyond.
Students choosing to complete a double major in International Business and another BBA major must do an additional three upper-level business courses not mandatory in either major.
This section specifies only the requirements for the International Business major, which may be completed in the BBA degree.
Completion of the International Business major requires a minimum of one semester of studying abroad at a partner university, with the successful completion of 12 university level credits. A minimum of nine of these credits must be upper-level business credits. The study-abroad semester will normally be taken during the third year of studies. UFV’s partner institutions for study-abroad opportunities are listed at international.ufv.ca/agents-partners/partners/partnership-projects/.
The International Business major requires that one of the lower-level general electives be a course studying a language other than English, with a minimum of three university-level credits. Students with existing competence in a language other than English that is offered at UFV can apply for prior learning assessment through the Modern Languages Institute’s course challenge process.
