English language proficiency requirements

Students registering in post-secondary level courses (numbered 100 to 499) will be required to meet the English language entrance proficiency requirements. Students in ELS or the University Foundations programs can register in those courses identified in the University Foundations program with lower levels of language proficiency.


Please note that not all courses are offered every semester.

TECH EX01

Excel Level I

Prerequisite(s): None.

Skill development and application of spreadsheet concepts using Microsoft Excel software.

Note: Students should be competent in computer skills before taking this course.

Note: Students with credit for ABT 137 or RM 06 cannot take this course for further credit.

TECH EX02

Excel Level II

Prerequisite(s): Excel Level I

Learn how to use intermediate MS Excel tools such as hyperlinks, PMT function, and additional formatting to create workbooks, including templates and multiple worksheets. This course will help you further develop your skills in chart creation.

This course is not a graduation requirement for the Bookkeeping for Small Business certificate.

Advanced Excel for the Office

Learn to use financial functions, pivot tables and charts, and custom format codes. Add data to multiple worksheets and consolidate data. Completing Excel Level I or Excel Basics before registering for this course is recommended.

Excel Basics for the Office

Master Excel basics: learn to create, edit, and format worksheets. Work with auto fill, flash fill, formulas, graphics, spark lines, and charts. This course is designed for people with no previous Excel experience.

Keyboarding

This 24-hour, online course provides an introduction to letter keys, numbers, symbols, and the 10-key numeric keypad, using a computer keyboard. The software is designed to monitor your speed, accuracy, and confidence and covers tips for proper keyboard positioning.

Office Fast Track

Tour the whole Microsoft Office suite and get introduced to applications such as Access (database), Excel (spreadsheet), Word (word processing), PowerPoint (presentation), and Outlook (email). Get hands-on experience using these tools to create compelling documents and presentations.

QuickBooks Level I

Learn how to manage customer and vendor transactions, general journal and cash transactions, estimates, orders, discounts, banking, taxes and credit cards. Before taking this course, completing Bookkeeping Level I and II or possessing foundational bookkeeping knowledge is recommended.

TECH QB02

QuickBooks Level II

Prerequisite(s): QuickBooks Level I

Build on the skills you developed in QuickBooks Level I. Learn how to create and manage a new company, including company setup and payroll and inventory transactions.

Advanced Word for the Office

Enhance your skills by working with advanced elements in Microsoft Word, including forms, table of contents, indexing, and tab stops. Find out how to create mail merges, track changes, navigate comments, and compare and combine documents.

Word Basics for the Office

This course is a quick way to learn basic Microsoft Word skills. Learn to create, edit, and format themes, as well as style documents. You will also work with headers and footers, bullets, drop caps, graphics, and columns.
