Posting details

The Philosophy department invites applications for a one-year Limited Term Appointment (LTA) to begin August 16, 2019 and end August 15, 2020. The successful applicant will be expected to teach the following courses:

  • PHIL352: History of Early Analytic Philosophy
  • PHIL300: Symbolic Logic
  • It would be regarded as an asset to be able to teach at least one of: PHIL323: Philosophical Issues in the Social Sciences, or PHIL322: The Philosophy of Mind.
  • Plus, some combination of lower level courses for a complete course load of seven sections (these include PHIL100: Critical Thinking; PHIL110: Morality & Politics; PHIL120: Knowledge & Reality).

Regular attendance at department meetings, input to departmental discussions, and service related to student recruiting and mentoring is expected.  Duties of Limited Term faculty fall within Article 18.2 (Teaching Faculty Duties) of the Collective Agreement, specifically the Teaching and Service components.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have a PhD in Philosophy, or evidence of completion by the time the appointment commences. In addition, evidence of successful teaching experience, and specialization in the area of Analytic Philosophy is required. It will be an asset to be able to teach at least one of, PHIL323: Philosophical Issues in the Social Sciences, or PHIL322: The Philosophy of Mind.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, a one-page statement of their teaching philosophy, relevant teaching evaluations, and should provide the names of three references. During interviews, candidates will be asked to give a 10 minute sample lesson. Candidates are encouraged to submit additional materials (e.g. syllabi) that they think may help to support their application.
