Job summary

The Director, Indigenous Student Centre (ISC), is critical to leading and coordinating a vision and plan for Indigenous student success at UFV. The Director:

 

  • Coordinates Indigenous student support through the ISC;
  • Partners with other areas of the university to ensure the provision of culturally-appropriate Indigenous student services at UFV;
  • Supports students in accessing UFV supports and services;
  • Supports the implementation of institutional strategic plan goals;
  • Develops plans and strategic goals for the ISC;
  • Represents the ISC on relevant university committees;
  • Promotes the recruitment and retention of Indigenous students at UFV;
  • Educates and informs the UFV community about the needs of Indigenous students
  • Liaises with Indigenous communities and organizations and with local school districts;
  • Supervises the operations of the ISC, including its events, programs, facilities, and initiatives;
  • Manages the ISC’s budget(s);
  • Prepares written and verbal reports as required; and
  • Leads, supervises, and supports permanent and temporary ISC staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Minimum of five years of directly-related experience in a post-secondary student support setting working with Indigenous students
  • Demonstrated knowledge and lived experience of Indigenous peoples and communities, ways of knowing, and worldviews, particularly of the Stó:lō peoples
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the post-secondary education system and of UFV Student Services
  • Evidence of successful leadership and management in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals
  • Evidence of strong skills in communication, relationship and team building, problem solving, project/initiative management, and collaboration
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative, use sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality
  • Valid BC Driver’s License

 

Other Considerations:

  • Short-listed candidates may be required to undergo a criminal record check.
  • This position requires some evening and weekend work at various locations/communities throughout the Fraser Valley, including all UFV campuses. Reliable transportation is needed.
