Job summary

Located within the Faculty of Health Sciences, the department of Kinesiology has more than 300 students enrolled in the Bachelor of Kinesiology degree program. The department offers a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree with three specializations (Exercise Science, Pedagogy, and Active Health). The Department of Kinesiology values diversity, character, academic rigour, and physical activity.

The department of Kinesiology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2020. We are seeking a collegial, energetic and innovative individual who has demonstrated successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level and who communicates effectively with students both in and out of the classroom. The successful candidate will teach courses in multiple areas including Human Anatomy, Nutrition, Health and Physical Fitness, Introduction to Kinesiology, and/or Applied Ethics for Health Sciences. Applicants should have a strong record of research productivity commensurate with their experience; demonstrated ability to establish a successful research program; and an ability to incorporate their research into applied learning opportunities for students. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, scholarship, service, and professional development. Experience with engaging community in exercise/fitness assessment and prescription, or health and fitness initiatives will be an asset.

Qualifications

  • A PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Kinesiology or a related discipline from a recognized institution
  • An excellent record of teaching experience in the relevant teaching areas at the undergraduate level which includes the use of teaching methods that highlight student engagement
  • Evidence of scholarly activity, including, but not limited to peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and grant writing
  • Demonstrated collegiality to participate in and support a collaborative, interdisciplinary work environment
