Teaching Philosophy

As an instructor, Alex presents lecture that convey his enthusiasm for course subject matter and, which he hopes, inspire students to become similarly passionate about the texts and materials we cover as a group. He is a firm believer in the idea of partnership between lecturers and students and finds that students thrive in nurturing settings wherein they are encouraged to pursue their personal interests.

Alex promotes a learning environment in which students are constantly critically engaged with the course material and has found that his excitement about teaching has encouraged students to feel comfortable approaching him to discuss course materials, to acquire additional assistance, and to ask questions about their future educational and career plans. In his experience, great teachers act not only as lecturers, but as facilitators of learning. For Alex, a successful classroom environment is one in which he has helped to generate discussion.
