This six-hour hands-on workshop covers basic pruning techniques applicable to a wide variety of plant material. Participants work on different trees, ornamental shrubs, and a fruit tree to learn to make proper cuts. Dress for the weather and bring your own pruners, such as secateurs or loppers.

Residential landscape Design 1

Acquire the skills to develop a residential landscape design that extends your lifestyle outdoors. Learn how to use the landscape design process, graphic plans, and the outdoor room concept to create a personalized and inviting outdoor living space of any size. This is the first in a series of courses related to landscape design. This course is perfect for homeowners, tenants, and property managers, as well members of the landscape industry. The class is taught by career horticulturalist and educator Michelle Nakano.

Discover how you can design and implement GSI in your residential garden with stunning results, while also protecting your local water supply. Introduction to Mushrooms

Cost: $245

Identify wild mushrooms of the south coast of B.C. with experienced mycologist Dr. Sharming Gamiet. Work through the dichotomous keys that are used in mushroom identification and review references used to identify mushrooms. Develop a solid understanding of the differences between choice, delectable, and poisonous mushrooms. A list of references used to identify mushrooms is provided. Purchase David Aurora’s Mushrooms Demystified from the UFV Bookstore in Chilliwack. This introductory course is an excellent foundation for those pursuing careers in ecotourism, culinary arts, wild crafting, and ecology. A field trip is included to get firsthand experience. Date and time will be determined in class, based on weather conditions.
