Smart Start online orientation

Whether you’re totally new to studying at UFV, or a current UFV student who wants an update on what learning will look like this Fall, Smart Start will set you up for success.

We know the upcoming Fall semester feels a lot different than what we all expected. To help you get ready for your first day of class, we're launching a brand new, self-guided non-credit online orientation course for all UFV students, called Smart Start. Find out more by watching the video below!

Learn everything you need to know about studying at UFV — whether you’re on campus, or online — by completing all four Smart Start course modules. Each module focuses on a different theme, with content designed to prepare you for academic, professional, and personal success throughout your studies at UFV.

How to access Smart Start

All four Smart Start modules are now live, so jump right in!

Get started now: 

  1. Log into myclass.ufv.ca using your UFV student ID and password.
  2. Select the "my courses" tab, and click on NSO_ONL: Smart Start Online Orientation.

What will be covered in each Smart Start module ?

Module 1: Culture & conduct
  • Get to know the UFV culture, and the way we celebrate equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Learn what it means for you to join the UFV community: student conduct, rights, and responsibilities.
  • Review what's expected of you when it comes to academic integrity. 
Module 2: Wellness & success
  • Explore how your health and wellness are vital to your success at university
  • Get introduced to key UFV supports so you can access them easily
  • Learn how to recognize the signs that you need a little extra help from UFV student services
Module 3: Get ready for class
  • Find out what learning will look this fall — whether online or on campus.
  • Be prepared to navigate the expectations laid out in your classes
  • Start your first week of classes feeling confident by completing the "Get Ready" checklist
Module 4: Get involved
  • Learn about the diverse communities that form UFV and see which student clubs and associations interest you
  • Discover myCampusLife: your go-to tool for staying in the loop
  • Learn ways you can connect with new friends and get #UFVinvolved

 


UFV is located on the unceded traditional territory of the Stó:lō peoples, where Halq’améylem is spoken. The Halq’améylem word given to us for New Student Orientation (NSO) is Tl’etl’axel, which means "to invite people to gather in one community."
