Chilliwack ElderCollege (CEC) began when Ace Hollibaugh brought the idea of ElderCollege to the University of the Fraser Valley in the spring of 1999. With the support of then UCFV President, Dr. Skip Bassford, an enthusiastic committee was formed with a number of interested community individuals, including Keith Bright, who was providing classes for seniors through a program called Lifetime Learning which was winding down. A program of eight courses was developed for Fall 1999 under the auspices of Chilliwack and District Senior Resources Society and in partnership with UFV.
Ninety-eight people registered for that first semester. In Spring 2016 almost 400 people registered for 27 courses encompassing active participation, theatre, arts, study & discussion, day trips, photography, cooking, computers & technology. CEC offers two semesters annually
Anyone over 50 who wants to keep on learning can join ElderCollege. The membership fee is $15 per year and expires on December 31.
We offer a relaxed approach to learning.
