High school students may take UFV classes for credit and complete high school with a jump start on their university academic record.
An ongoing agreement between the Fraser-Cascade School District #78 and UFV provides dual-credit learning opportunities for students between Hope and Agassiz. Students receive credit toward their high school graduation and also earn first-year university-level credits. The goal of the program is to provide high school students with the opportunity of experiencing what life as a university student will be like, to explore a program path and to gain the advantage of graduating with university credits in their portfolio. Students receive a student ID number, have access to their own myUFV account, receive a student card, and are able to access the UFV library.
The classes take place in SD78 classrooms within Agassiz Elementary Secondary School (AESS) or Hope Secondary (as appropriate) and are arranged to fit around extra-curricular programs. Provided with a list of potential courses by the Hope Centre coordinator, counsellors of SD78 and the principals meet with their students to get input on which course(s) are most of interest to the students.
AESS has also made their courses available to the general public. The tuition and fees for the students of SD78 are paid for through the agreement; the students purchase their own texts and supplies. Adult students are responsible for all applicable tuition, fees, cost of textbook and supplies. If you have questions, contact the Hope Centre.
