Each November, Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast celebrate the importance of accessing meaningful work and all those that help us in connecting with our preferred futures. Canada Career Month volunteers work to advance the agenda of improving access to career services and education so that all Canadians are better prepared to develop their careers and transition into the emergent labour market.

AI in the Workplace

Kick-off Career Month with an insider chat featuring the minds behind Longhouse Media. Explore AI integration in the workplace, three key recommendations for adapting to AI, and a discussion on copyright in the age of AI.

Speakers:

Tristan Taylor (Lib Arts Dipl' 23) 

As Executive Director of Taylor Co. & Associates, as well as the Results Manager and Partnerships Specialist for Longhouse Media, Tristan uses A.I. daily to get all his work and planning done. After ten years working in municipal government, he has developed the ability to find positive solutions for complex problems while seeking opportunities to grow relationships within his community. As an expert project planner that is responsible for delivering results to clients, he has leaned into A.I. prompts and shares his expertise with all who will listen.

Kennan Beavis (BBA '18)

Keenan, a proud member of the Métis nation, was recognized in 2023 by the Greater Langley Chamber of Commerce as a Top 30 under 30 business leader by BC Business magazine, received the BC Achievement Young Indigenous Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2020, and in 2024 he was recognized as the recipient of the UFV Alumni Association’s Young Distinguished Alumni award.

Registration closes October 27, 2024. We will notify accepted participants via their student email in the last week of October. 

Celebrate the remarkable journey of the University of the Fraser Valley’s 50th year! We invite you to participate in the pilot launch event of the Community Ideation Jam. This collaborative and inclusive environment aims to generate innovative ideas and actionable plans with a diverse group of participants.

More information will be released on the day of the event for participants' anticipation and excitement!

Students can form teams of up to a maximum of four members.

We ask them to recall their (post-) undergraduate memories at UFV and what sparked their newfound passion that has led them to where they are today.

Check out poster presentations by UFV students at the Abbotsford City Hall in partnership with City of Abbotsford! Get inspired with how you can play an important role in your local community. This event will take place during the one-day Involve Symposium 2024 - Sustainability Edition.

Involve Abbotsford Symposium is a free one-day event that supports and fosters the robust and innovative arts, non-profit sector, and local sports organizations by providing relevant information and training to help build on the foundation of service that benefits the quality of life for all residents of Abbotsford. Prepare to be informed, inspired and invigorated.

CityStudio is a partnership program between the City of Abbotsford and the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and challenges university students to tackle civic issues and provide prototype solutions.

How to Recruit Yourself

How to Recruit Yourself is an exploration of the Canadian labour market that provides a behind-the-scenes glance at management hiring practices, the impacts of emerging technology, and the hidden job market. We will uncover and explore a proven method to get yourself hired usually reserved for executives and accessed exclusively through highly paid consultants. This method will include actionable advice, including how to brand yourself effectively on platforms such as LinkedIn.

About the Speaker

Adam Currie exemplifies how genuine care can lead to systemic change. Graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Certificate in Professional Communications, Adam’s rise has been marked by community building and transforming lives. He has also been recognized with the 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award.

Adam’s career began at UFV, co-founding the Human Resources Student Society. His professional path includes roles at Cummins, Korn Ferry, and Kal Tire. As a Regional Vice President at Optimum Talent and founder of VX Search Group Inc., Adam’s entrepreneurial spirit shone, achieving success before merging with TMG Search Canada.

Now, as Director of Executive & Senior Leadership Acquisition at Fraser Health Authority, Adam leads senior leadership and physician recruitment. He also advocates for First Nations employment initiatives, LGBTQ2+ causes, and serves on boards like the Shuswap Community Foundation. Adam’s accomplishments demonstrate vision, resilience, and a commitment to community.

Host a career month event!

Are you planning a Career Month event for UFV students and alumni? For UFV student Clubs and Associations, Faculty or Staff:

  1. Plan your event to take place either online or in-person (following current UFV and provincial health guidelines). See Event Resources for venues and suppliers
  2. For in-person events, submit your Event Safety Plan at least two weeks in advance of the event
  3. Set up your virtual space (on a platform like Zoom, social media, etc.), or book your in-person space
  4. Complete the UFV Student Organization Event Application form (Clubs and Associations only)
  5. Submit your event to UFV Now to be included in UFV Now and UFV Events Calendar. Include Career Month in the event name and select Centre for Experiential and Career Education as a category tag (and any other related categories) for UFV’s website calendar feed. Faculty, staff, and administrative units can also submit student-related event announcements to the VP, Students newsletter.
  6. Use your own channels to promote your event to students and alumni. See Canada Career Month Logos and Templates. Tag CECE (@UFVjobs) in your social media posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. If your event is open to the public, you can showcase your event on Canada Career Month.
  7. If registration is required, send information to participants to join your event
