The Devised Theatre Showcase is the final project presented by UFV Theatre’s fourth year Devised Theatre class (THEA 452). Led by instructor, Parjad Sharifi, it is a chance for students to apply everything they have learned during their time at UFV and create a production together from scratch. We invite you to come and see what our students have worked so hard on.

This year the Devised Theatre Class has created a theatre piece called Pages of Time. We grow up surrounded by books, but which chapters create the library of our mind? Pages of Time is a performance that engages with the power and nature of books. Follow the Reader as they are whisked from cover to cover of the favourites from childhood to adulthood. Delight in the power of books and the joy of escapism; but do tread lightly, for we do not know where fiction ends, and reality begins.

The student collaborators this year are Racheal Arnold, Ashy Crowston, Lydia Gunnink, Aimee Payeur, Alex Simpson, and Mark Urano. The production is supported by a student production and design team that includes Arty Urdabayev (projection and sound designer), Sterling Kai Pollock (lighting designer) and Marie Brideau (stage manager).

Performances will be held in the Performance Studio, Building D, 105, Abbotsford Campus, University of the Fraser Valley, 33844 King Road.

Ashy Crowston

Meet Ashy, a true mixologist of both stage and spirits. Back for their fourth show with UFV Theatre, she knows how to shake up a performance on both sides of the curtain. Currently working towards a Theatre Diploma, they’re blending their love for the craft with dreams of a professional career in theatre. When not in rehearsal, you’ll find them behind the bar, perfecting the art of cocktails and occasionally belting out a karaoke classic. Life’s a stage - and Ashy is here to serve up a performance, one drink (and show) at a time.

Ashy’s unable to choose one favourite book, she’s too indecisive, but The Hunger Games means a lot to her.

Lydia Gunnink

Lydia Gunnink was terrified by the idea of creating a show with five other random individuals with no boundaries whatsoever (she still is), but she was bribed by the prospect of combining two of her favourite things: books and theater. Her favourite book is the Bible, but her favourite fictional book is The Way of Kings or really any book by Brandon Sanderson (though The Giving Tree is certainly up there *hint hint*). Lydia thanks the LORD for the courage and creativity to devise this show, for the amazing collaborators she’s had the privilege of working with, and for the acting experience she was able to bring to this show from her roles as Anne de Bourgh in Gallery 7’s Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberly and as the Second Witch and the Porter in UFV’s Macbeth.

Aimee Payeur

Aimee is a fourth-year student at UFV and is graduating in June with a BA, majoring in Theatre. She is one of the collaborators in Pages of Time, which includes creating the show as well as acting in it. Live theatre is one her greatest joys in life and she is thrilled to be a part of yet another UFV performance. Previously she has worked on the UFV productions Dog Sees God, Climate Change Theatre Action, and Pericles as either an actor or in props. Aimee loved working with this ensemble and is excited to share what they have created over the last few months.
