Health and Wellness

Éy Swáyel,

As we step away from September 30th, 2022, a day to honour Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and into UFV Wellness Week, we continue the recognition and sentiment of Indigenous peoples, voices and histories. We begin UFV Wellness Week by recognizing Stó:lō First Nations as the original keepers of the land, tém:éxw, where UFV campuses are situated today. We acknowledge that Indigenous peoples hold knowledge, wisdom and practices on health and wellness through their connection to land, culture and community. As we continue UFV Wellness Week annually, we will strive to work in solidarity toward decolonizing health and wellness practices and bringing awareness to the many ways of knowing.

Wellness Week 2022

Welcome to the First Annual Student Wellness Week!

UFV Student Wellness in collaboration with Counselling will provide opportunities for students to engage in free health and wellness activities across campuses.

At this point in the term, it can be tempting to ignore your health and wellbeing in favour of long hours in front of the computer attending to assignments, staying up late into the night cramming for midterms, and rushing around from one commitment to the next.

Wellness Week is meant to serve as a reminder that investing time in your own wellness is a good success strategy! Did you know that eating regular meals, getting a good night’s sleep, enjoying fresh air, and taking time away from studying to enjoy social activities are all things that contribute to being a successful student? Research shows that incorporating balance and healthy practices in and around your studies increases memory, retention, and focus. All good things to boost both your health and your success!

Throughout next week, there are many ways to participate and engage in your well-being, including strategies being shared over social media. Check out the schedule of events below, social media @ufvprlc or visit our Wellness Peers in the Peer Resource and Leadership Centre at the Abbotsford Campus: S3127 and Chilliwack Campus: A1302
