Whether you are a mid-career professional looking for career advancement or a recent graduate wishing to earn an additional credential, the UFV Accounting certificate can act as a key stepping stone toward achieving a Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) designation.
UFV's intensive program provides you with specialized knowledge in financial and management accounting, financial statement reporting, personal and corporate income taxation, and auditing.
The program may be taken part-time over several years or full-time over three semesters, giving you the flexibility to set your own pace.
After graduation, you may pursue your studies to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration degree at UFV or apply to an accounting society to earn a professional designation. The professional accounting associations recognize most accounting and finance-related business administration courses offered at UFV. Check with the accounting societies for transfer information.
The Certified General Accountants Association of Canada reports that accountants rank in the top five percent of all Canadian wage earners, with many of them occupying C-level executive positions.
In the next decade, employment prospects for financial auditors and accountants will remain excellent. Estimates show that between 40 and 45 per cent of practicing accountants in Canada are over the age of 50. There are currently not enough graduates to meet this upcoming wave of vacancies.
Many opportunities also exist in this field for the self-employed. According to Statistics Canada, among professional services, accounting services showed the third-highest rate of self-employment, at 35.4%.
