Adjunct Faculty, Research Associates, and Visiting Scholars

The University of the Fraser Valley recognizes that the academic mission of the university may be enriched by the knowledge and expertise of external faculty, scholars, and researchers and will appoint for this purpose.  These procedural guidelines are in support of UFV Policy 197 - Adjunct Faculty, Research Associates and Visiting Scholars.

Procedures

Adjunct Faculty and Visiting Scholars

  1. Dean emails recommendation package to provost@ufv.ca*
  2. Provost reviews recommendation package
  3. Upon approval, Provost’s office notifies all relevant parties
  4. Human Resources requests appropriate accesses

     * Chandigarh Instructors – regular SAC package required in place of the recommendation package.

Research Associates

  1. AVP, Research, Engagement and Graduate Studies emails recommendation package to provost@ufv.ca
  2. Provost reviews recommendation package
  3. Upon approval, Provost’s office notifies all relevant parties
  4. Human Resources requests appropriate accesses

Appointment Renewals

Follow the same procedures as initial appointments within the following timeframes:

  • Adjunct Faculty shall be recommended by the department or school with appropriate justification and provided to the Dean of the Faculty at minimum three months prior to the end of the third year of appointment.
  • Research Associates shall be recommended by the Principal Investigator or head of the research institute, center or laboratory with appropriate justification and provided to the Associate Vice President, Research, Engagement and Graduate Studies at least one (1) month prior to the end of the existing appointment.
  • Visiting Scholars shall be recommended by the school or department with appropriate justification and provided to the Dean of the Faculty as soon as the need or request for the renewal is known.
