Classes, exams, and academic concessions for the Fall 2021 semester

Updated December 3, 2021

The BC floods have impacted many of our students, faculty, and staff. Our current plans - outlined below - aim to bring you as much stability and certainty as possible as you work to complete the semester.

Remote learning to continue for most courses

To support the successful completion of the academic term, UFV is announcing the following measures:

  1. All courses and programs will continue to be delivered remotely for the remainder of the academic term except for a limited number of courses and programs.
  2. These courses will begin on Monday, December 6, and have been approved by the appropriate Dean in order to achieve learning outcomes.
  3. Faculty and programs will provide students in these courses with the logistics of participating in face-to-face components safely. Students who are not able to access UFV safely will be provided with appropriate accommodations and/or alternative options.

Final exams

At this point, we are optimistic that face-to-face final exams will be able to be offered on our campuses at their previously scheduled times and locations. A final decision regarding the location and delivery mode of final exams will be announced by December 9.

This plan is based on current information, if conditions worsen, additional measures or changes to this plan may be adopted and will be communicated promptly.

Academic concessions for Fall 2021

We recognize the challenges that completing the Fall 2021 term presents.

Here are the options available to you if you have been affected by the flooding:

An incomplete grade shows as an I on your transcript until your instructor submits your final mark.

Who this applies to:

  • Students who can’t complete their final exam/project due to extenuating circumstances
  • Students who could achieve a final course grade of C or higher if they had extra time to finish coursework

What you need to do:

  • Talk to your instructor about this possibility to see if it will work for you. Your instructor will arrange new due dates for your work and help you submit an Incomplete Grade Contract.

Who this applies to:

  • Students who can’t complete their final exam/project due to extenuating circumstances
  • Students who have satisfactory course marks to this point

What you need to do:

  • Talk to your instructor about this possibility to see if it will work for you.

A CR gives you credit for the course, but doesn’t affect your GPA. A CR is equivalent to a C minus for prerequisite purposes. Therefore, it meets most, but not all, subsequent course prerequisites. Also, some programs require course grades higher than a C minus to graduate. If you have questions about the impact on your program, please check with an academic advisor.

Who this applies to:

  • Students who finish all coursework and/or final exam and achieve a C- or D grade in the Fall 2021 semester only

What you need to do:

  • Wait until you receive your final course grade.
  • Submit the Credit Petition - Fall 2021 form.
  • The request form is due by April 30, 2022.

An NCR (no credit granted) doesn’t affect your GPA.

Who this applies to:

  • Students who end their course with an F grade in the Fall 2021 semester only.

What you need to do:

  • Nothing. Your grade will automatically be converted to NCR.

A late withdrawal shows as a ‘W’ on your transcript and does not affect your GPA.

Who this applies to:

  • Students who wish to withdraw from one or more courses.

What you need to do:

  • Submit your request before you complete your final exam or final course assignment.
  • You will need to explain your circumstances in a short note, but you will not need formal documentation.
  • If you are on a student loan and withdrawing from a course, please contact Financial Aid.
