Helping UFV prepare for emergencies

UFV's Emergency Management team protects what matters most during dangerous situations: the lives and critical assets of the UFV community.

A key way you can help our emergency management efforts is by being prepared. Please take time to become familiar with UFV's emergency procedures, important phone numbers, and evacuation areas. That way, you'll be ready to help yourself and others if there is ever a threat or crisis on campus.

Emergency management plan

The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is committed to protecting the well-being of its community members, as well as its intellectual and physical property. As part of this commitment, the Safety & Security department is responsible for implementing UFV’s Emergency management program, under the oversight of the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Administration. This program was created to:

  • Minimize the impact of emergencies
  • Maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the University’s emergency response
  • Bring UFV back to normal operations as quickly and safely as possible

This program consists of an Emergency management plan (EMP), accompanying manuals and standard operating procedures, and a training program. The EMP is a publicly available document that is intended to provide guidance on the management structure, processes, and procedures for any emergency that may occur at any of UFV’s properties within BC.

Emergency drills

Fire drills

Fire drills will be conducted at all campuses according to the schedule below.

When the alarm rings, please evacuate the building using the closest exit. Security and Floor wardens will assist with the evacuation. Please move away from the building and proceed to the nearest Emergency Assembly Area.

You may return to the building when you hear the 'all clear' signal. Safety & Security holds fire drills on every campus at least yearly.

Earthquake drills

UFV encourages everyone to participate in Shakeout BC, an earthquake readiness drills that happens on the third Thursday of October every year.

To receive announcements about drills via text message or email, be sure to sign up for UFV emergency alerts
