ECE Dual Credit

What is ECE?

Early Childhood Educators work in daycares, preschools, nursery schools, and in sometimes the public-school setting. They provide care and learning opportunities to children up to the age of 5. Responsible play, socialization, and creativity are some key developmental milestones achieved while in the care of an ECE professional.

ECE Dual Credit Program

UFV’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate program is an excellent foundation to pursue a career working with young children.

The dual-credit program allows high school students get ahead in their studies and financials. UFV works with school districts in the Fraser Valley to provide experience in a university setting. Dual-credit students should be determined, responsible, and self-sufficient. The responsibilities of schoolwork and communications with the staff and faculty of UFV will be on the student and school district rep.

Next steps:

After completing ECE 100 you are eligible to apply for your ECEA certificate. An ECEA can work at a childcare facility under the supervision of an ECE professional. Apply with the BC ECE Registry. You will need your official UFV transcript to complete your application.

To keep going with the ECE program, you will need to apply to UFV after you graduate high school. Applications will open October 31st. How to Apply to UFV - ECE.

Options:

ECE – Because you got a head start on your ECE studies, you do not have to take any of the first semester courses, and you may have taken CMNS 125. You will be able to take ENGL 105 or HSER 120 as either one of those courses are a requirement to graduate with your ECE certificate. You can also take a First Aid program (required).

Child and Youth Care - Bachelor of Arts  - If you decide to move on from the ECE program, you can apply some credits towards a Bachelor of Arts.

Bachelor of Education -  You need to have completed a 4-year degree in a teachable subject (English, History, Sciences, Math) to apply to the BEd program. No credits earned in ECE will apply to the BEd, but your experience in child development courses could add to your application for the Elementary/Middle school option.
