I spend time mentoring teacher candidates during their practica ensuring that I remain connected with practicing teachers here in the Fraser Valley. Before coming to UFV I worked as an elementary school teacher in school districts #48 and #53, as well as a sessional lecturer for the University of Victoria.
My scholarship interests include curriculum integration, planning through assessment, effective rubric development, developing conceptual understanding in mathematics, critical thinking in social studies, and curriculum mapping in teacher education.
My first love and concern are my students. I believe that teachers have the opportunity to positively enact change on a global level…starting with what they do in their classrooms. As a result, student empowerment, and by extension, teacher empowerment is a cornerstone of my teaching philosophy. I work from what students know, what they are passionate about, and what grounds them to build curriculum, understanding, and confidence. I put my students first, and in turn, as teachers, they put their students first. It is an amazing and transformative process that I am proud to be a part of here at UFV.
