As a teacher, I aim to create a learning environment conducive to active and engaged learning. I strive to be evidence-based, to create a safe learning space, and to make the educational experience fun.
Every learner is different, and an explanation or approach that works for one learner may not work for another. Similarly, I adapt my style to the different environments I teach. My respect for my students is palpable as there are divergent views or perspectives on each subject under discussion. Sociology is replete with relativism, and students from several backgrounds have different understandings as influenced by their experiences. I listen and hear the students, encourage a positive attitude, and encourage them to explain Sociological concepts and terms in their own words to help them signify social reality.
