UFV School of Culture, Media and Society students go on to be leaders in the Fraser Valley and beyond. Here are some recent achievements of UFV SCMS grads: 

  • Caylee Kunz has been accepted into the social work program at Dalhousie University.
  • Brooke Higginbottom's paper was published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior The Nuances of intimacy: Asexual Perspectives and Experiences with Dating and Relationships.
  • Brooke Higginbottom graduated with a major in Sociology, Research Concentration. She was awarded a prestigious SSHRC Masters award and is enrolled in the MA program at the University of Victoria.
  • Sarah Beaulieu, a UFV alumni, has completed her PhD and is currently an Assistant Professor in Anthropology & Sociology for SCMS.
  • Spencer Huesken graduated with a Sociology major (Social Research Concentration) at UFV, a MA from Queen's University, where he received the Christopher Knapper Award for Excellence in Teaching Assistance in 2019. Spencer is currently completing his PhD at Queen's University, and is a sessional for SCMS.
  • Angela Ostrikoff graduated with a Sociology major and Social Research Concentration has been accepted to the MA program in Sociology at York University.
  • Cody Hall has been accepted to UBC Law School.
  • Kristen Chaisson has completed her MA in Sociology at Dalhousie University and has been accepted to the PhD program at the University of Calgary.
  • Jess Wind graduated with a BA at UFV, MA in Media Studies at Carlton University, and is currently working as a sessional at UFV.
  • Kristianne Hendricks graduated with a BA Sociology/Anthropology and has begun her MA at Simon Fraser University.
  • Caitlyn Therrien graduated with a BA Sociology/Anthropology and has begun her MA at the University of Toronto.
  • Anju Gill Graduated with a BA Sociology/Anthropology Major and Media and Communications Studies Minor and has begun her MA at Simon Fraser University.

Awards and Special Recognition:‌

2023/2024

Guy Rushton Award - This award is given to the graduating student who exemplifies the qualities of scholarship and leadership within a School of Culture, Media, and Society program, the institution, and in the community. This year the honour went to Alexis Klassen.

Outstanding Achievement Award - This award is given to the graduating student who achieves the highest grade point average in a declared major, minor, or extended minor within the School of Culture, Media, and Society. This year the honour went to Avneet Kaur Sahota.

Excellence Award - This award is given to the graduating student who achieves a grad point average of 3.5 or above While completing a major, minor, or extended minor with the School of Culture, Media, and Society. This year the honours went to:
