What students have to say
We think working with our departments is fun and engaging! But don't just take it from us. Here's what our current student workers have to say about their work experience:
My experience as an Academic Integrity Mentor at the SRRO office has been very rewarding. I've had the privilege of connecting with numerous students, guiding them through academic challenges, and supporting their journey.
Through this role, I've developed valuable skills in peer support, university policies, and public speaking. These experiences have significantly improved my interpersonal and professional skills, such as empathy, active listening, effective communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability.

I have greatly enjoyed my time working as the Education Assistant with the In This Together program.
Through this role, I have been able to work closely with a team of wonderful volunteers and grow my leadership skills. Best of all, this opportunity has allowed me to support a cause I deeply care about, sexualized violence prevention. To see the positive impact of my work has been incredibly rewarding!
This role is truly unique, as it provides such a wide variety of skills and experience. I have developed a better understanding of the complex social issue of sexualized violence and learned everyday networking and marketing skills. I have also gained practical experience in program development & assessment and adult education.
In my time as the Education Assistant, I began to feel like a real part of the UFV community. I would recommend getting involved in whatever way suits you best!

Working as a Food Bank Assistant has allowed me to make a meaningful impact on the UFV student community. It was incredibly fulfilling to support a cause I am passionate about-- reducing food insecurity and supporting students in need. My goal was to ensure each student could access the support they need with dignity and confidence. Through collaboration with Student Wellness, I gained valuable experience in food safety, logistics, communication, all while advocating for sustainable solutions to improve access to nutritious food on campus.

My experience as a Student Support Peer at UFV’s Student Support Centre has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my academic journey. This role has allowed me to connect with students one-on-one, offering peer support and guidance on academic challenges, mental health, and university life. Through these interactions, I have developed practical skills in active listening, empathy, and problem-solving - skills that will be invaluable in my life and future career.
The supportive and inclusive environment within the Student Support Centre has been truly inspiring. The Student Support Coordinators are exceptional mentors whose dedication to student success fosters a welcoming space for growth and learning. Their guidance has significantly shaped my personal and professional development, reinforcing the importance of tailoring support to individual needs and creating meaningful, impactful conversations.
Working as an SSP has been a highlight of my time at UFV, enriching both my university experience and my preparedness for future opportunities. I highly encourage students to get involved with the Student Support Centre, whether as a peer or by connecting for support - it is an experience that fosters connection, resilience, and lasting impact.
