Sustainable UFV

Plan a sustainable UFV event

Overview

In March 2022, the Office of Sustainability launched the Sustainable Event Certification program as a way to empower UFV event organizers to foster sustainable practices at activities on campus. Since then, more than 40 events have received certification through the program for working to improve their environmental and social sustainability impacts.

Certification benefits

No matter your role on campus, there is a place for you in Sustainable Event Certification program. Some of the benefits include:

  • Learning new practices and resources
  • Making a positive impact on campus sustainability
  • Achieving certification for your event
  • Receiving recognition for your efforts through marketing and day-of banners

How the Sustainable Event Certification program works

  • Any event or conference at UFV can be certified by the Office of Sustainability.
  • With over 50 actions to choose from, the Sustainable Event Checklist is divided into three categories:
    • pre-event planning and preparation;
    • day of/during the event;
    • and post-event.
  • Actions range from venue selection to decoration recycling and marketing materials.
  • When the event organizer completes the checklist, the certification level is calculated and verified by the Office of Sustainability. Events are awarded Bronze, Silver, or Gold ranking.
  • Events are only evaluated by relevant categories. For example, if you are not having food at the event, the food and catering categories will not be scored.

How to get started

Email sustainability@ufv.ca  to receive a copy of the Sustainable Event Checklist and get your planning started.

“The Sustainable Events checklist is a fantastic resource that really helped us to think through how to make our Creativity Labs as close to zero waste as possible and accessible to all.
